Changing Your Countertops

Granite, Man-Made Quartz and Solid Surface

How to get an estimate for your countertop...

It is pretty easy to put together a countertop drawing adequate for estimating. You can measure your old countertop exactly as it is rounding up to the nearest inch.  Draw your countertop shapes on a sheet of paper noting each measurement of width and depth.  If you have a backsplash, put an "S" to denote the location of each backsplash.  If you have an exposed edge, put an "X" on that edge.  The link below will give you an idea of what other elements to include for a countertop estimate.

Alternatively, you can setup an appointment for us to come to your home and do the measurements for you.  It will take about 15 minutes to measure and evaluate your countertop.  However, we can stay for as long as you want, so all your questions are answered.

At some point you will want to visit the Kitchen Gallery to see what countertop colors you like.  There are several hundred granite, marble and man-made quartz colors to choose from.

After you have placed your countertop order...

When you convert your estimate to an order the Kitchen Gallery will set up a template date and secure the countertop material.

In most cases with solid surface, granite, marble and/or man-made quartz a template of your countertop will be required.  There are two ways to template a job:  "stick" or "digital".  If your countertop is for new construction either option works well.  If you are replacing an existing countertop, then the best option is utilizing a "digital" template.

With "digital" templating your old countertops stay on your cabinets until your new countertop is fabricated and scheduled for installation.  Homeowners use to be without a full functioning kitchen for several weeks while they wait for the countertop to be fabricated.  With "digital" templating that rather inconvenient wait no longer exists.  With the Kitchen Gallery, we work to narrow that wait time to 48 hours.

You are ready for templating when the base cabinets are 100% installed (including finished panels) and appliances are at the job site (i.e. sinks, faucets, soap dispensers, dishwasher, cook top, slide in range), some exceptions may apply.  Farmer sinks must be installed in the sink base cabinet.

The job site template confirms exact measurements and records important job details.  A person of decision making authority (usually the homeowner) must be at the job site during the templating.  You will be asked to review and approve a "Template Checklist" that may have countertop overhang information, faucet hole locations, sink and/or cook top information, whatever applies to your situation.

The best time to look at and approve your countertop material is after the template is completed.  This gives you the opportunity to see the template on the slab.  You will be guided through this template layout review process by a material fabrication specialist.
